Sweet Street.

Death by Chocolate
Dessert will be the cause of my ultimate demise. I am sure of it. I've always enjoyed fine food and drink. But when it comes to sweets, I become a different person. Christopher likes to make fun of how low my standards go when I'm desperate to satisfy my full set of sweet teeth (whats a sweet TOOTH?). We joked around, I laughed along, I silently identified with Augustus Gloop as we watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory a few nights ago.

But I digress. This city is full of incredible desserts. You have your fair share, of course, of the frozen, prepackaged deserts that restaurants will heat up and cover in chocolate sauce, trying to pass off as "homemade". But I was pleasantly surprised to find delicious locally made after-dinner-treats in restaurants that don't even specialize in desserts across the city.

Baking It Easy
After enjoying a nice trip to Strawberry Street Cafe's famous salad bar, I decided to reward myself for being so healthy with a nice slice of something sweet. I ordered their key lime pie, curious as to what a Virginia key lime pie would taste like. I have been to the Florida Keys on several occasions to visit Chris's grandparents, and trying as many different pies as possible has always been a trip favorite for us. I couldn't believe how much I loved the key lime pie from Strawberry Street, the perfect balance of sweet and tart, with a graham cracker crust that rivaled the authentic pies we have had down in the actual Keys. My waiter told me they got their pies from a local bakery called Baking it Easy. Aside from my love of punny names, this Northside local bakery has it going on. Cakes, every type of pie you can imagine, cookies by the dozen, there is nothing stopping this place.

THE VERDICT? Can't stop won't stop eating this pie. If buying an entire key lime pie seems ridiculous to you, just go order a single slice from Strawberry Street Cafe's eclectic dessert menu.
